Ax Throwing, Plaid Shirts and Chalk

Sports and history have been partners since the beginning of time. The cavemen probably had contests to see who could throw a rock the longest distance or maybe a wife. It's just something in our nature, and it will never lessen. During the virus time we have missed sports as history was being made, and we probably didn't notice any events that were monumental. It will take historians at later times to tell us what was going on as we watched re-runs of football or  basketball. Actually there were some live events like the Cornhole championship or the ax throwing contest.

Ax throwing--now there's a blend of sports and history because the skill has to go back to centuries ago. And just when I thought that it was really not worth anyone's attention, I noticed that two franchises had opened in Austin for ax throwers. I had thought it was a sport that people in Wisconsin in plaid shirts liked. Nobody in Austin is wearing a plaid shirt.

But if I have to bet my money on the next big sport, I will go back in my own history and think of something that could catch on: hopscotch.

Hopscotch. Just think. It only takes one participant, some chalk, a rock, a smooth surface (although we sometimes used whatever was handy), maybe a referee to check and see if your foot is on the line, and something that Vegas can take bets on. Will the hopscotcher make it to square 5? Will the hopscotcher get past the dangerous square 7? Will the hopscotcher break the record for the shortest amount of time to make all squares? Will there be teams from cities across the nation who can't afford uniforms or an empty arena for football? Can it be done without any people in stands? It is a winner, and those Austin franchises can open in the empty spots where there used to be small businesses that need to sub-lease for the time being until they can get back on their feet.

So now I am going to invest in chalk because that is an early investment that is bound to be good. I could have amassed a great fortune on similar investments that were promising: Pier One, Neiman Marcus, Pennys, Sears, JCrew. I should be up there with Jeff Bezos in no time.
